Accelerate Your Research Journey—Maximize Your Time at the Bench

Start Your Thesis in Year One
From your very first semester, you’ll rotate through two research labs of your choice. These rotations help you find the right scientific environment for your biomedical research training and mentor, with the goal of entering your thesis lab by the start of your second semester—so you can spend more time doing meaningful, independent research.

Explore What Interests You Most
Choose from four dynamic disciplines: Genetics, Molecular & Cellular Biology, Immunology, Molecular Microbiology, or Neuroscience. You’ll work closely with your thesis advisor to make important discoveries in biomedicine, supported by Tufts’ Boston-based health sciences campus.

A Mini-PhD Experience with Academic Excellence

PhD-Level Coursework Without the Long-Term Commitment
The MBR program is a biomedical graduate program that mirrors the rigor of PhD training—without the multi-year time investment. You’ll take advanced courses alongside PhD students in your chosen track, gaining the scientific depth and critical thinking skills needed for doctoral-level science.

Learn from Leaders in Biomedical Research
Tufts faculty are at the forefront of their fields, with over 100 active researchers offering mentorship and access to state-of-the-art facilities and core resources. You’ll gain the foundational knowledge and lab experience needed to pursue a PhD or launch a research career in biotechnology, pharma, clinical research, or academia.

A Collaborative Community That Fuels Discovery

Personalized Mentorship & Career Development

Faculty Who Know Your Name—and Your Goals
With a small cohort size, you’ll receive individualized attention from faculty who are deeply invested in your success. Thesis Advisory Committees provide regular feedback and guidance on both your research and your career path.

Support for PhD and Career Planning
Whether you're preparing for a PhD or entering the workforce, Tufts offers robust support: career mentoring, networking events, and PhD application workshops are built into the program. You’ll graduate with a stronger application—and a clearer sense of direction as you embark on your biomedical science career.
